SEND
The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice
At Oaklands Primary Academy, we are committed to supporting the learning, development, and wellbeing of all our pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2014) for 0–25 years, a child or young person is considered to have Special Educational Needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability that requires special educational provision. This applies when a child:
- Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
- Has a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the educational facilities typically provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or post-16 settings.
The SEND section of our website provides detailed information about how we identify, support, and monitor pupils with SEN. It also outlines some of the many ways we work in partnership with families, external professionals, and our wider school community to ensure that every child receives the right support to achieve their full potential during their time with us.
We are proud of our inclusive ethos and our commitment to providing an environment where all children feel valued, supported, and successful.

EBSA – Emotionally Based School Avoidance
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) is when a child experiences significant anxiety or emotional distress that makes attending school difficult. At our school, we recognise that this can be a complex and challenging experience for both children and their families. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to understand the underlying causes and to provide supportive, tailored approaches that help every child feel safe, confident, and able to engage positively with their education.

Admissions
Children with a full statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC) are dealt with under a separate process by the Special Educational Needs team. The published admission number of all Bromley academies is inclusive of students with a statement of special educational needs or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC) that are admitted to the Academy pursuant of the school being named in their statement or EHC plan.
