At Oaklands Primary Additional Resourced Provision (ARP), we are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive, and individualized learning environment that empowers every child to achieve their personal best. We believe that all children, regardless of their individual needs or abilities, have the right to a high-quality education that celebrates their strengths, supports their challenges, and fosters their independence. Through a collaborative partnership with parents, carers, and external professionals, we aim to ensure that every child feels valued, included, and capable of reaching their full potential.

Oaklands additionally resourced provision (ARP) is for primary aged children with an Education, Health and Care (EHC). The children attending the Arp have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Places are sought through local authority consultations.
The ARP consists of three classes, Moon, Comet and Meteor who have their own bespoke pathways:
- Moon- Engagement Pathway (Exploring and learning through experiences) for our younger learners.
- Comet- Active Pathway (Engaging with learning experiences) for mixed KS1/KS2 class.
- Meteor- Exploring Pathway (Life skills and active learning) for our older learners.
Core Principles of Our Vision:
Child-Centred Approach:
Every child is unique, and our approach places the individual child at the heart of everything we do. We design learning experiences that cater to each pupil’s specific needs, abilities, and interests, ensuring that their journey through school is meaningful and personalized.
Inclusive Learning Environment:
We are committed to building a learning environment that is inclusive, where children of all abilities can thrive alongside their peers. We believe that inclusion fosters understanding, empathy, and diversity, and we work towards creating a school culture where differences are celebrated.
High-Quality, Tailored Education:
Our ARP provides the highest standard of teaching and learning, tailored to meet the needs of children with additional needs. We use evidence-based strategies such as the Engagement model and innovative teaching methods such as SCERTS (social communication emotional regulation transactional support), alongside specialized approaches such as PECS, Makaton, AAC (alternative augmentative communication) sensory integration and communication boards to support communication, social interaction, and academic development.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
We believe in the power of collaboration. Our ARP works closely with class teachers, teaching assistants, specialists (e.g., speech and language therapists, occupational therapists) families and mainstream teachers to create seamless and cohesive support. Where applicable we will always try to encourage our pupils to participate in learning opportunities in the main school if it is beneficial to their social and academic development. Together, we are stronger and better able to meet the needs of all our pupils.
Focus on Communication and Independence:
For children in our ARP, developing communication and independence is key to unlocking their potential. We prioritize communication skills by using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods such as PECS, communication boards and Makaton. We also promote independence in learning, life skills, and self-regulation to prepare children for life beyond the classroom.
Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Support:
Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being, we aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where children feel secure, respected, and understood. Through tailored interventions and positive relationships, we help children manage their emotions, build resilience, and form meaningful social connections.
Personal Achievement and Celebration of Success:
Every success, no matter how small, is celebrated at our ARP. We set high but achievable goals for each child, enabling them to grow in confidence and self-belief. We recognize that progress looks different for every pupil, and we celebrate personal achievements in all areas—whether academic, social, emotional, or behavioural. Each child has their own personalised learning plan which is updated three times a year. These break down the EHC targets into smaller steps to ensure success and progress towards the EHC outcomes.
Family Engagement and Support:
We believe in fostering strong relationships with families, as they are the primary partners in their child’s education. Our ARP provides a welcoming space for parents and carers to be involved in their child’s progress with regular communication to ensure that home and school work together for the benefit of each child.
Preparing for the Future:
We are committed to preparing children in our ARP not only for academic success but also for life beyond primary school. By equipping them with the skills they need to navigate social, emotional, and practical challenges, we help them to transition smoothly to their next stage of education and beyond.
Our Vision in Action:
Supportive Learning Spaces: Our classrooms are designed with sensory and visual supports to create a structured, calm environment where children feel safe to explore and learn.
Tailored Curriculum: We offer a flexible curriculum that allows for differentiated teaching, adapted resources, and personalized learning plans to ensure that every child can access the learning at their own pace and level.
Strong Partnership with Parents: We regularly engage with families to ensure that they are fully involved in the planning, review, and progression of their child’s learning and development.
Our ultimate goal is to create a learning community where every child, regardless of their starting point, is empowered to achieve their personal best, build meaningful relationships, and develop the skills they need to thrive in school and in life.
