PSHE
PHSE Knowledge Organisers
Intent
Our PSHE and RHE curriculum at Oaklands Primary Academy is designed to promote positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience, and achievement. We believe that good mental health and wellbeing are essential for children to learn and thrive. Through PSHE, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to keep themselves safe, make informed decisions, and develop as happy, successful, and responsible citizens in an ever-changing world.
Implementation
PSHE is taught in weekly lessons from EYFS to Year 6. We follow the National Curriculum and use SCARF (Coram Education) as a basis to ensure comprehensive coverage. Our curriculum is organised into six strands:
- Me and my relationships
- Valuing difference
- Keeping myself safe
- Rights and responsibilities
- Being my best
- Growing and changing
Lessons are practical and discussion-based, allowing children to explore scenarios and practise skills in a safe environment. Our approach is embedded in the school ethos, so PSHE principles run through everything we do. We also celebrate events such as Anti-Bullying Week, Odd Socks Day, and Children in Need to raise awareness and build a strong profile of pupil wellbeing.
If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing or safety, please speak to one of our Safeguarding Leads in school.
Impact
Children at Oaklands develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to articulate their feelings. They learn how to keep themselves safe, both in school and online, and show respect and care for others. Pupils understand British Values and demonstrate them in their daily interactions. As they progress, children become reflective and able to apply strategies for managing emotions and making safe choices. Our PSHE curriculum prepares pupils for the next stage of education and for life beyond school, helping them grow into well-rounded, responsible citizens.
